REMNANTS OF MEMORY – MENZIONE SPECIALE AAFF

Asolo Art Film Festival Logo

Michael Arlen Davis  (United States), cat. Films about art

A great glimpse of Venice, with minimal detail but observed and told in a pleasing way. A great liaison between a profession of today: the kiosks, which are also part of the soul of Venice, and another ancient Venetian profession par excellence: bookbinding. Both survive and are experienced and witnessed by the protagonist who creates a great little work of art with his photographs.

Michael Arlen Davis (United States), cat. Film sull’arte

Remnants of Memory

Fine Art Photographer Charles Johnstone explores the vivid canals and ancient passageways of Venice, Italy in search of a new book project. A meditation on artistry and craft, “Remnants of Memory” celebrates beauty in the overlooked, anonymous objects we pass every day.

About the Film

Reviews

”[Remnants of Memory] was a wow for me…I absolutely loved every bit of it. As a lover of photography myself and someone who has traveled to Venice, it was so moving to see the beautiful city in a new light, a new perspective. Seeing the level of detail that goes into creating a book on photography was really something.”

Programming Director Charlotte Film Festival

“I just watched Remnants of Memory. It was beautiful and I had never watched a book being made. I loved the music, the sound of the water, watching Charlie navigate the corridors. I remember seeing the kiosks but never saw them as did Charlie. I hope you are proud of this film.”
